7 Easy Ways to Make Your Front Porch Feel Like Fall

You don’t need to completely redecorate your porch to make it feel like fall. A few simple layers of warm colors, natural textures, seasonal plants, and cozy lighting will completely change the feel of your entryway. These seven easy ideas will help you create a welcoming fall porch without making it feel overdone.

01 · FALL FAVORITES

Start With a Fall Wreath

A fall wreath is one of the easiest ways to change the entire feel of your front porch. Look for one with warm autumn colors, greenery, and natural-looking textures that will stand out against your front door. I especially like a fuller wreath because you really only need that one piece to make the entrance feel decorated.

02· LAYERED DETAILS

Layer Your Doormats

Layering a traditional doormat over a larger patterned outdoor rug is such a simple way to make a front porch look more pulled together. I love the brown-and-white check for fall. It adds warmth and pattern while still being neutral enough to use well beyond the season.

Use the larger rug underneath and center a simple coir doormat on top for that finished, layered look.

03 · NATURAL DETAILS

Mix Pumpkins in Different Sizes and Colors

Instead of lining up a row of identical pumpkins, mix different sizes, shapes, and colors. Traditional orange looks beautiful with creamy whites, muted greens, and softer autumn shades.

Pick up real pumpkins locally and mix in a few reusable faux ones if you'd like pieces you can bring out again next year. A small grouping around your planters or lanterns is usually all you need.

04· WARM LIGHTING

Add a Pair of Lanterns

Lanterns are one of my favorite ways to add warmth to a porch because they look beautiful during the day and even better once the sun goes down. Place a pair beside the door, on the steps, or near a chair or bench.

Varying the heights makes the arrangement feel more collected and gives you an easy place to add flameless candles or other seasonal touches. This set comes with two lanterns, LED candles, and a remote- you'll be able to use these throughout the holiday season.

05 · SEASONAL COLOR

Bring in Mums or Fall Planters

A couple of mums can add more fall color to a porch than a whole collection of decorations. Place them in planters you already own, or group a few near the front door with pumpkins and lanterns.

Real mums are always beautiful, but faux outdoor flowers can be a great reusable option if you want the look without worrying about keeping another plant alive.

06 · COZY DETAILS

Add a Cozy Place to Sit

If you have a chair or bench on your porch, this is an easy place to repeat some of the colors and patterns you've already used. A simple outdoor pillow and cozy throw can make the whole space feel more inviting.

I especially like repeating the brown-and-white check from the layered rug in a pillow. It ties the porch together without adding another competing fall pattern.

07 · FINISHING TOUCHES

Add a Little Seasonal Glow

The final layer is the one you'll appreciate once the evenings start getting darker. A lighted fall garland adds both autumn color and a soft glow without requiring another large decoration.

Try weaving one around the doorway, along a porch railing, or around a bench for an easy finishing touch that looks just as pretty after dark.

Keep It Simple

The prettiest fall porches don't necessarily have the most decorations. Start with a wreath, layer in a few natural elements, repeat a couple of colors or patterns, and add some warm light.

A handful of thoughtful details can be enough to make your front porch feel completely ready for fall.
